Portgate, located in Limassol, sits at the intersection of the city's most central avenues, near the bustling Limassol Port. This prime area is a vibrant hub of multistory buildings housing shipping companies, shopping centers, malls, restaurants, the newly built casino, Aplostra beach, and many other amenities.
Our client's vision for Portgate was clear: they needed a commercial high-rise to serve as their company's new headquarters. Our goal was to design an original and innovative building that would stand out as the first imposing structure drawing the attention of visitors arriving from the Port. In essence, Portgate serves as a gateway to Limassol and the country from the harbor side. This concept inspired the building's name, which was enthusiastically adopted by the owner.
We aimed to capture the vibrancy of the sea and the movement of the waves in Portgate's design. This vision is reflected in the continuous play of volumes and shapes that alternate harmoniously throughout the building, both in the enclosed spaces and the balconies. The undulating rear side of the building features an airy pattern that gives a sense of movement and hints at the dynamic design seen on the other sides. This movement is designed to evoke the sea's continuous flow, presented in a distinct vertical direction.
Three sides of Portgate offer unobstructed views of the sea and the harbor, allowing us to incorporate wide openings and large glass panels that bring the stunning views into the workplace. The expansive balconies provide essential protection from the intense Mediterranean sun while enhancing the overall aesthetic.
Portgate is a testament to innovative architectural design in Limassol, blending functionality with a unique visual appeal that resonates with the vibrancy of its coastal surroundings. This commercial high-rise is not just a building; it's a landmark that symbolizes the dynamic energy of Limassol's harbor area.
